Umpires

All Umpires are required by Baseball Ontario to be certified annually to maintain their active umpire status. Below are the instructions to become an umpire with Bloordale Baseball League House League division.

All umpires are required to successfully complete the training offered through the Ontario Baseball Association. Information on the clinics can be found at www.playoba.ca. It is preferable that you attend the Etobicoke Clinic which is scheduled for March 29, at Humber College, but you can attend any clinic for your level. Bloordale is not involved with the OBA certification process and any questions about this need to be directed to them at [email protected].

Please be aware that you must maintain annual registration, or you will lose a level.

Once you have completed all components of the OBA certification, you must complete the following two items.

1. Umpire Registration Form (below)
2. Set up a profile on Horizon Web Ref.

We will be doing all game scheduling using Horizon Web Ref. Please take time to familiarize yourself with the system. Detailed instructions are further down this page.

What you need to umpire for Bloordale House League

House League Umpire uniform:

• Navy Umpire Shirt
• Navy or Black cap
• Grey pants (not sweats)
• Dark shoes.

Please purchase early – the local stores run out of Navy Shirts very quickly. It MUST be Navy.

You will need an Umpire Kit – which has a clicker, brush, and ball bag. You also need a watch – the use of a phone on the field is not permitted.

Bloordale provides umpire safety equipment including face mask, chest protector and shin guards.

House League Umpire Pay Rate:

9U – $30.00/game
11U – $40.00/game
13U – $45.00/game
Ladies Slo-Pitch – $50.00/game

Other Expectations

Umpires are required to arrive at the field 20 minutes prior to the scheduled game time.

Umpires need to report any game incidents to the UIC at completion of the game.

Steps to Logging on to Horizon Web Ref For The First Time Without an Existing Account

(Please Use a Computer During this Process)

1. Visit HorizonWebRef.com.
2. Press the “Member Login” function (located at the top right of the website).
3. If you do not have an account on Horizon Web Ref press the “Don’t have an account Sign Up” function (located near the bottom of the website).
4. When you reach the “Sign Up” page, enter your Email Address, First Name, Last Name, User Type (please enter Official), and Organization Number (Bloordale’s Organization Number is 206566).
5. You will then have to wait to be accepted into the system (this could take up to a week).
6. Once you have completed these steps, Horizon Web Ref will send you an email to the email address you entered during the “Sign Up” Stage that will ask you to start creating an account on Horizon Web Ref.
7. It is strongly recommended that you also download the HorizonWebRef.com app on your mobile device.

Steps to Logging on to Horizon Web Ref With an Existing Horizon Web Ref Account

(Please Use a Computer During this Process)

1. Visit HorizonWebRef.com.
2. Press the “Member Login” function (located at the top right of the website).
3. If you already have an account on Horizon Web Ref enter your Username and Password and go to your “Personal Profile” on your account. On your Personal Profile go to the subheading “My Associations” and then press on the “Join Another Association” function where you will be asked to select your “User Type” (please select Umpire), “Permission Level” (please select General Member), and Association Number (Bloordale’s Association Number is 206566).
4. You will then have to wait to be accepted into the system (this could take up to a week).
5. It is strongly recommended that you also download the HorizonWebRef.com app on your mobile device.
